HyperFrames FAQ
Short answers about HyperFrames — license, setup, formats and cloud rendering. Facts follow the heygen-com/hyperframes README and HeyGen docs; check upstream if something changes.
What is HyperFrames?
HyperFrames is an open-source (Apache-2.0) framework from HeyGen that turns HTML, CSS, JavaScript, media and seekable animations into deterministic MP4 video. Compositions are plain HTML files with data attributes for timing and tracks. Longer overview: What is HyperFrames?
Is HyperFrames free?
Yes. The framework on GitHub (heygen-com/hyperframes) is Apache-2.0 licensed, with no per-render fees or commercial-use thresholds according to the project README. HeyGen separately offers a paid Cloud Rendering API.
What do I need to run HyperFrames?
Node.js 22 or newer and FFmpeg. The engine drives headless Chrome (auto-downloaded via Puppeteer) and encodes frames with FFmpeg.
How do I convert HTML to MP4 with HyperFrames?
Run npx hyperframes init my-video, edit index.html, preview with npx hyperframes preview, then render with npx hyperframes render. Full walkthrough: HyperFrames tutorial. Other methods: convert HTML to MP4.
Which animation libraries work?
The README lists GSAP, CSS animations, Lottie, Three.js, Anime.js, WAAPI, or a custom frame adapter — anything that can be seeked to an exact frame.
What output formats are supported?
HeyGen’s documentation lists MP4, MOV, WebM, GIF and PNG sequences.
Does HyperFrames need React?
No. Unlike Remotion, compositions are plain HTML with no React requirement and no build step. See HyperFrames alternatives for a side-by-side.
Can I render in the cloud?
Yes: locally, in Docker, on AWS Lambda (supported by the project), or via HeyGen’s hosted Cloud Rendering API.
What is hyperframes.dev?
It is the project’s homepage and community playground for previewing, sharing and rendering HTML-native video projects. This site (html2mp4.com) is an independent guide and is not affiliated with HeyGen.
